How about a pair of cast iron industrial styled cog book ends – maybe a bit of a steampunk themed item for your book shelf?
Having made some cogs for clocks, it struck me that these could a great compliment to some of the cog based clocks I’d been selling. So, take a quarter of a cog, mount it to a base and an upright and hey presto a book end.

Again, these are made from a quality MDF and machined using a Workbee CNC machine. The rusting process is as my other projects and I try and add a bit more interest by dropping other ferrous items, such as old nuts, on to the surface being treated. The image is of a book end in the process of being rusted which can take over a week of treating, drying, re – treating etc.

These bookends are on sale via my Etsy shop and come in three sizes, medium, large and extra large – the medium stand around 150mm tall and 80mm wide, the large are 200mm tall and 100mm wide and the extra large is 220 tall. They all feature a quarter of a machine gear wheel that is around 35mm wide.

These bookends have been well received, here are a couple of recent reviews from my Etsy shop:
I ordered the medium bookends. As far as I’m concerned they are indistinguishable in look from actual cast iron.

Very pleased with purchase. Dave made the bookends a little larger as they are for design books so on the large side. Work perfectly. Well done you! Highly recommended as Dave appears to be a perfectionist with an eye for detail. Thank you again for your work.
